Seeking God…
When I got my new iPhone 4s back in August, I was SO excited! My pink Razr had just about completely died, and I was definitely ready for a phone that worked. Since cell phones are all we have and yes, I have become accustomed to having one, and really liked having one when I am traveling with my children, I was excited to get a new one that would ring when someone called me!
I spent A LOT of time trying to figure out this new contraption! I mean, hours. And hours, and hours. I’m still learning what all my phone has the capabilities of doing!

Proverbs 8.17 (speaking of wisdom) “I love those who love me, And those who seek me diligently will find me.”
Then today, I started thinking about it. I’m not sure why it took me 3 months to think of it this way but… When we get something new, how long do we spend trying to figure it out? Playing with it? Learning the ‘Ins and Outs’ of it? Until we have it figured out. We diligently play with our phones until we can use it to the best of its and our capacity. I’m not sure I will really ever have my phone completely figured out!
Likewise, I will never know all there is to know about God. I will never understand everything in the Bible. However, that should make me seek it even more, not deter me from doing it. Yet, when it comes to our relationship with God and the power of the Holy Spirit, we are satisfied with our ‘ticket to heaven’. We don’t read our Bibles and pray, and diligently seek the Word of God the same way we do a new toy of any sort. We don’t wear it out until the pages are falling out and we need a new one. Instead, we decide that what we have is enough and we don’t need anymore.
Hebrews 11.6 “But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.”
When we need wisdom, we talk to our everyone and their brother for advice. We might even Google it! Then, we reach for our Bibles and prayer. We take hours and hours learning how to use our latest gadget, while our Bible lays by the side and collects dust. If we were as passionate about the Word of God as we are our new phones, we might just change the world!
Am I seeking God as diligently as I’m seeking out how to use my iPhone?
Am I taking time out to read His Word? Am I truly accessing the power of the Holy Spirit? Do I even really know what the means? Do I know what that looks like? Am I searching the Scriptures the same way I’m searching my ‘toys’ to see what else it can do for me? What are you searching for, more diligently, than you are seeking God?
Just some thoughts…. what do you think?!
