Skinny Saturday- You Are What You Eat!
We’ve all heard it said, “You are what you eat” and we make jokes about donuts, pizza, Coca Cola and the such. Everyone gets a good laugh and we walk away the same. However, I truly believe that when it comes to taking care of yourself that what you eat is a very large part of your success for losing weight.
***Please remember I’m no fitness or nutrition expert so these are all my own opinions based on what I have seen in my own life.***

One of my favorite sayings is “Trash in, trash out”. And the same is true for your body. If you want to eat Krispy Kremes, McDonald’s, Sonic Slushes, and DQ Blizzards everyday, don’t come crying to me when you aren’t losing weight!
Don’t get me wrong….. this girl can put down some Krispy Kremes. I face my evil every Sunday when I go to church. I could seriously eat like 6+ of them! But, what good will that do me? Put my on a sugar high to crash later and feel worse for eating them? Yup. Exactly!
Instead, we truly need to be looking at what we are putting into our bodies. We need to be fueling our bodies with living foods. We need to be putting in food that is going to help our bodies, not take so much energy out of us that our bodies don’t have time to burn away the fat that we are working so hard to lose. Have you seen the movie “Over the Hedge?” Now, I’m not a huge Dreamworks fan, and this isn’t one I like my children watching. However, there is a part in there that cracks me up because it is so true!
“We eat to live, these guys live to eat. Let me show you what I’m talking about. The human mouth is called a “pie hole.” The human being is called a “couch potato.” That is a device to summon food. That is one of the many voices of food. That is the portal for the passing of the food. That is one of the many food transportation vehicles. Humans bring the food, take the food, ship the food, they drive the food, they wear the food! That gets the food hot. That keeps the food cold. That… I’m not sure what that is. What do you know? Food! That is the altar where they worship food. That’s what they eat when they eat too much. That gets rid of guilt so they can eat more food. Food! Food! Food! Food! Food! So you think they have enough? Well, they don’t. For humans, enough is never enough! “

I hope your laughing! My point is, we eat because we’re bored, we have it, why not? And not only that, but we often make really bad choices. We reach for the sugary sweets instead of the apple. The potato chips instead of the cucumber. I know. BORING! Right? Keep listening. I do believe in allowing yourself a ‘splurge’ every once in a while. If you stop eating those things that you really enjoy, you are just going to feel deprived. So, don’t do that either.
Find a balance. Do what you can. Take little steps. Stop drinking pop and start drinking water. Can’t give up your latte? Me either. Get it skinny, and don’t drink it everyday! Like pizza? That’s okay, just eat it once a month instead of twice a week. See. That’s not so bad, is it? I notice a considerable difference when I am conscious about what is going in. Not only in the numbers on the scale, but also in the way I feel. It’s worth it! Trust me! And, don’t compare yourself to everyone else around you. We can’t always do what the next person is doing, so do the best you can, and forget the rest!
I hope this will encourage you today to make food choices that will help your body instead of hinder your hard work in the gym!
Now….. I’m off to go make a chocolate birthday cake for a special 1 year old! And yes, I’m going to eat it too!
Blessings

Gail, I agree and appreciate whis so much! Thanks!
You’re welcome Mary! It seems that this concept of food is common sense. I think it gets so hard to live because sugar/salt are just so addicting! If we can get ourselves away from the super salty and ultra sweet, we will certainly be doing ourselves a favor!
Exactly!!! I’ve never seen that movie, but that quote from it is bang on. Thanks for a much needed reminder! And by the way…I can access your blog now!
You’re not really missing out by not seeing it. But, every time I think of food, that is what I think of! The part of the movie makes me laugh because it’s SO true!
